Marathon 449 comes and goes - Cotswold's Steve Edwards completes another race

Steve Edwards from Moreton-in-Marsh ran his 449 marathon last Sunday 9th March in a time of 3 hours 13 minutes and 26 seconds and that is another fine time and another race under his belt towards his world record challenge of running 500 marathons by 2012 in an average time of under 3 hours 20 minutes.

Cotswold's Christian Cullinane completes the 350 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational Race

Moreton-in-Marsh based Christian Cullinane has cycled (and walked) to complete the 350 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational Race in 7 days 13 hours and ten minutes and arrived in McGrath, Alaska at 03.10 on Monday 10th March.

Cotswolds based Steve Edwards ran his 448 marathon last Sunday - 17th February - in a time of 3 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds and that is one more race and one more very good time towards his world record challenge of 500 marathons by 2012 in an average time of under 3 hours 20 minutes.

Go the extra mile for charity at Bourton

Cotswold Leisure Bourton will do its bit for charity next month when it hosts the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.

Manager Jo Whitfield is calling runners of all abilities to come along to centre, in Station Road, to take part in a sponsored one, three or six-mile charity run on Sunday March 16th.

Gloucestershire pupils raise over £5,100 to feed children in developing countries

Pupils from 54 schools in Gloucestershire have given generously and raised over £5100.00 to feed children in developing countries.

Schools were invited to take part in the World Food Programme’s ‘Buy One Give One Free’ initiative, which took place on World Food Day on Monday 16th October.  Schoolchildren were asked to donate 11p, which is the amount needed to feed one child in the developing world for one day.

As a county, they raised £5144.26, which translates into 46,766 extra children being fed through the World Food Programme’s School Feeding Programme.

From the Cotswolds to Alaska for the Iditarod Trail Invitational Race

Christian Cullinane is going to cycle 350 miles non stop across Alaska to raise money for Winston's Wish charity

The Iditarod Trail Invitational Race is an extreme competition which sees individuals cycle, walk or ski 1100 miles or 350 miles non stop across Alaska. The race is billed as the World's Longest Human Powered Winter Race and is so tough that it is strictly by invitation only with a 50 racer limit. Experienced winter athletes may take part but many of the competitors will not reach the end.

Slum Survivor is a national campaign organised by the charity Soul Action. Slum Survivor is a challenge to spend a weekend in the way that a billion spend a lifetime.

Tetbury goes green with weekend Swap Shop

Unwanted items ranging from books to bicycles were exchanged for free at a Swap Shop in Tetbury.

Last weekend’s event was organised by Cotswold District Council as part of its drive to reduce waste and promote the re-use and recycling of materials.

Residents were able to bring along unwanted but re-usable clothes, shoes, books, crockery, videos and computer games and take other items home with them for free.
