Cotswold District Council plans half million pound boost for flood alleviation

In response to strong public demand for further support to communities during flooding and other emergencies, the Cotswold District Council Cabinet is considering an allocation of a further £500,000 for flood alleviation in its draft Medium Term Financial Plan for 2010/11.

Council spends £663,000 on preventing floods in the Cotswolds

Cotswold District Council has spent £663,000 to date, on flood prevention schemes following the floods in July 2007.

A range of projects have been carried out by Cotswold District Council (CDC) who have been working together with Gloucestershire County Council, the Environment Agency, town and parish councils, riparian owners and water companies.

Flood cash is just a drop in the ocean, warns Cotswold Council Leader

The extra £330,000 flood recovery grant awarded to Cotswold District Council by the Government is not enough to meet the District’s needs, Council Leader Cllr Lynden Stowe has warned.

Cllr Stowe spoke out following a meeting of Council today (July 29th) which unanimously supported a motion calling on the Secretary of State to ensure that CDC is adequately funded to continue its leadership role in helping the District recover from the events of July 2007.

Bourton to host Flood Fair on May 16th

Helping Cotswold communities cope is new task for Tim

Helping communities all over the Cotswolds to cope with whatever fate may throw at them is the task for recently-returned Cotswold District Council employee Tim Dowan.

Tim is the authority’s new Community Resilience Liaison Officer, and has a key role helping towns and villages prepare for future emergencies, while helping them to recover and learn from problems in the past.

Gloucestershire Road Repair Funds start Flooding In

It has been announced by the Department for Transport that Gloucestershire County Council is to receive £10.048 million to repair the damage to the County's roads caused by last summers flooding. This good news has delighted Cotswolds MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown.

Sporting boost for young flood victims from Cotswold District Council

Young flood victims are to get a boost in the shape of £15,000 worth of free sports coaching, thanks to Cotswold District Council.

Youth Sport Development Officer Scott Burry made a successful application for half of the money to Gloucestershire County Council’s Flood Recovery Grant fund for children and young people. The remaining £7,500 was awarded from the District Council’s own pot of Government Flood Recovery Grant funding.
