A Celebration of Wood Firing Pottery at Whichford Pottery

A Celebration of Wood Firing – a Weekend Workshop and the opening of a major exhibition of Wood-Fired Ware at the Octagon Gallery, Whichford Pottery on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April 2009.

This exciting 2-day workshop will feature talks, seminars, masterclasses, demonstrations and kiln firings by many of Britain’s best exponents of wood-fired studio pottery including Svend Bayer, Charles Bound, Nic Collins, David Garland, John Jelfs, Jim Keeling, and Robert Sanderson.
Two new kilns have been built especially for the weekend, and these will be fired on the Saturday, and opened to see the results on the Sunday. In addition, Gas Kimishima from Japan will be building a Japanese-style raku kiln, and firing traditional teabowls.

The weekend will be fun and informative for anyone interested in pottery. It also marks the opening of a major exhibition of wood-fired studio pottery by 14 leading well-known makers including Ray Finch OBE from the Winchcombe Pottery. Ray is still making wonderful pots at the age of 94!
The exhibition will run from Sunday 25th April to Sunday 31st May

Comments from the last weekend workshop include:

“...Whichford Pottery, a venue that was just right for the occasion, good facilities and lovely surroundings. The organisation was excellent. All possibilities had been thought of.”

“The excellent management, which involved having two or more different things going on at the same time in different places and which were repeated, meant that nobody need miss anything...”
