Appreciating British Craftsmanship -

We are passionate about traditional manufacturing and design skills.

Handmade 2009 will be an excellent collection of ethical and beautiful

things and we are delighted to be a part of a truly British fair of this

calibre.”

One of the new designers who’s benefited from our part sponsorship is textile

designer Elizabeth Hopkins:

“The events held by this Organisation are very important in the development of

British designers, especially to myself, who in the early stages of business are

very keen to promote my work to potential clients. It is also a good chance to

network and meet fellow designers to an extent of building up a 'community

spirit'."

A selection of the Eco Conscious designers who will be showing include Alix

Swan, a textiles and paper artist whose work is based in traditional fairy tales.

These items range from brooches to interactive wall pieces that fuse old and new

technologies through found materials and digital photography. Aline Johnson

creates site-specific glass designs inspired by the rural coastline of Dorset. Her

search is to find a balance in combining the medium of glass with light. To

harness the translucent beauty of glass she casts found objects, such as

feathers and leaves, to create chandeliers. Katie McCulloch’s ceramic designs

found inspiration from the British coast and her childhood home of Antigua.

These pieces are made from a unique blend of recycled paper and clay and are

then raw glazed, thus reducing her impact on the environment.

The range of products to be on offer will be far from your average run-of-the-mill

gift, every item will be hand crafted, made to stand out and, importantly, British.

If you are looking for that ‘something’ a little bit different, a visit to Handmade in

Britain at the Assembly Rooms, Bath is a must-see event.

Now in its second year, Handmade in Britain returns to showcase the brightest and most innovative talent in contemporary design at the Assembly Rooms, Bath.

Following critical and commercial acclaim, this year’s event is destined to set a

very high standard for the summer’s craft events. Handmade in Britain have

created a show where buyers and exhibitors alike are sure to be inspired by

quality, originality and Eco conscious ethos behind the works for sale. All the

exhibitors work locally in the UK and strive to keep their carbon footprint at its

lowest by locally sourcing materials to create guilt free contemporary craft.

Designer-maker Piyush Suri established Handmade in Britain as an initiative to

maintain the high standard in the British Craft sector and create market

opportunities for buying craft. Handmade in Britain also provides a platform for

new designer-makers by offering part sponsorships and supports them through

training workshops preparing them for the show.

Those attending the Handmade 2009 show will be able to choose from a range

of Eco conscious products such as hand-crafted jewellery, fashion and textiles,

ceramics, tableware, stationery and a broad choice of home accessories from

over 60 of the UK’s most talented designers.

But it is not just about design, more importantly, and as the name suggests,

everything on sale will have been made in Britain. Handmade in Britain is

dedicated to supporting homegrown talent and providing a marketplace for those

who have resisted the temptation to set up their businesses abroad. It is about

keeping important craft skills within Britain, and creating beautiful items for you to

love and cherish.

Notable amongst the fashion on show will be Terry Macey who creates beautiful

and original clothing with emotion using natural fabrics. Their style retains a

classic simplicity with a contemporary twist.

Mary Davis who is a keen supporter and exhibitor at Handmade in Britain says,”

Now in its third year Handmade in Britain is one of the fastest growing UK based organisation set up by Designer-maker Piyush Suri aiming to promote talented designer makers who produce their work in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
