Cirencester Pupils to enjoy watery away-day at South Cerney

Pupils from two Cirencester schools will cool off with a watery away-day this month thanks to joint work between Cotswold District Council and Cirencester Town Council.

A group of 12 pupils from Deer Park and Kingshill schools will venture to the Outdoor Education Centre in South Cerney on Monday April 27th for a Team Building Away Day, where they will take part in a range of activities designed to forge team spirit.

The day has been organised as part of the young people's training to become members of Cirencester Youth Town Council and encourages team-building and problem solving.

In the morning, the pupils will enjoy two hours of team games and challenges, while the water will beckon during the afternoon session - from 1pm-3pm - when the groups can try their hand at raft-building and sailing.

The 12 young people are currently learning how local government works and have already allocated their roles and responsibilities. They are being trained by Cotswold District Council's Youth Participation and Development Officer Claire Dowan, in partnership with Cirencester Town Council.

Claire Dowan said: "It is a pleasure to be working Cirencester Town Council on such a positive project.

"Youth town councils are an excellent way of involving young people in decision-making and the young people involved in this project are really keen to be involved. The team-building day was their idea and they have fundraised and helped organise the day themselves."

Andrew Tubb, the CEO of Cirencester Town Council, said: "We welcome the opportunity to work in partnership with Cotswold District Council in establishing a Youth Council for Cirencester.

"The grant funding from the Town Council recognises the commitment of the young people in wanting to build on their self-confidence as individuals and in working together as a team."
