Practitioners past and present are celebrating 150 years of district nursing at the University of Gloucestershire's Oxstalls campus on Tuesday June 9.
The University has been educating district nurses since 1986 and is currently developing a new masters programme for district nurses in collaboration with local PCTs.
The event is chaired by Lynn Young, RCN Primary Health Care Adviser, and delegates will be welcomed by Vice Chancellor Professor Patricia Broadfoot.
Dr Carrie Howse, author of Rural District Nursing in Gloucestershire 1880-1925, and Rosemary Cook, Director of the Queen's Nursing Institute will be looking at the past and future of the profession, and current district nurses in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Swindon PCTs will be giving a presentation on district nursing today.
There will also be an exhibition in the Link Corridor.
Senior Lecturer in Health Sue Chilton said: "This is an opportunity for district nurses and those from other organisations and groups who work closely with them to come together and celebrate a landmark in the profession, and we are very proud to be involved."
