Cheltenham Illustration Award Winners Announced

Celebrating some of the brightest new talent from around the country the Cheltenham Illustration Awards take centre stage on Thursday.
The winners will be announced at the University of Gloucestershire’s Pittville Studios after hundreds of artists, illustrators and students submitted their illustrations to the Emerging Talent and Student categories on the theme of True Stories.
The winner of the Emerging Talent category will receive £1,500 with a runner-up prize of £750.
Student winners will each receive an Apple iMac computer. Winners and commended entrants will have also have their work produced in a high quality annual and showcased in an exhibition at the Summerfield Gallery, Pittville Studios.
The awards ceremony will feature a talk and question and answer session by founders of Cabanon Press, Tom Gauld and Simone Lia.
The awards will start at 2pm on Thursday and will be flanked by the 2nd annual Illustration Symposium.
The Illustration degree at the University has quickly gained recognition with narrative and visual story telling given special emphasis on the course, as it links to many aspects of illustration production such as the graphic novel, children’s books and animation.
Kieren Phelps, Senior Lecturer in Illustration at the University of Gloucestershire, first conceived the awards in 2007. He said: “The Cheltenham Illustration awards goes from strength to strength year on year, attracting a higher calibre of illustration talent, this year being no exception, we are excited to have Tom and Simone involved this year as they are two of the brightest stars of British narrative illustration.”
All are welcome, but tickets must be bought in advance, they are £15 each and include refreshments and a light lunch. Tickets can be bought via the  website below.
