The Poet and the Painter Exhibition in Cheltenham

Poet Anthony Richards, and painter, Magnus Park, are holding an exhibition of words and paintings, graphics and prints at the University of Gloucestershire to coincide with The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival 2009.
Magnus Park was a student at Francis Close Hall, then St Paul’s College, Cheltenham from 1968 to 1972 from where he graduated with a Bristol University First Class degree in Painting/Printmaking.
He followed this with a Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Art and Design from Chelsea School of Art and has been exhibiting in the United Kingdom and America for many years.
His work is featured in public institutions and private collections worldwide, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Whitechapel Gallery and the Mall Galleries, London and Manistee Art Institute, Michigan USA.
Recent projects include private commissions to paint pictures of houses for the owners and currently one of his paintings of Dumfries House, Scotland is being used for part of their product range.
Poet and librettist Anthony Richards was Principal Lecturer in Combined Arts at St Paul’s College from 1963 to 1985.
He has published four books of poetry, one of which From a Satyric Country, was shown in the St Bride’s London exhibition, The Artist and the Book in England with original woodcuts by Ian Mortimer of IM Imprimit Press.
As librettist with the Gloucestershire composer Tony Hewitt-Jones he completed six works which included a dramatic cantata, Edmund, King and Martyr which was performed at Framlingham with Peter Pears as soloist. With composer Keith Harrison he wrote a music/theatre piece, The Majesty, based on the life of the painter, Duccio, performed in the Chapel of St Paul’s College.
