The National Collection of Asters

Aster novi-belgii26th September Upton House (NT) Aster Open Day

Continuing with the theme of National Collections, Upton House near Banbury has The National Collection of Asters and this unique and important collection will be the focus of an Open Day in September.

Asters have been around in the UK for over 400 years and the name comes from the Greek word for star. They are often called Michaelmas Daisies but enthusiasts only use this name for the commonly grown Aster novi-belgii.

Asters flower in September and Upton House will have a wonderful spectacle of varying shades of purple, mauve and white flowers.

Upton House and Gardens is a National Trust property which is open every day except for Thursdays and Fridays with the Garden, Restaurant and Shop also being open on Thursday and Friday throughout August.

The House has a wonderful collection of Old Master paintings and English and French 18th-century porcelain together with a fascinating exhibition of Shell advertising posters from the 1920s and 1930s.

Upton House is only 45 minutes away from Little Gidding so why not come and stay with us and visit some historic houses and gardens (and some National Collections)
