Summerfield Gallery, Pittville Studios, Albert Road, Cheltenham, GL52 37G. Telephone: 01242 714940. Private view: Thursday November 5th, 6-9pm. Public opening: Friday November 6th-Friday November 24th. Monday to Friday: 10am-4pm.

Celebrating some of the finest new talent from around the country the University of Gloucestershire’s Summerfield Gallery plays host to the Jerwood Contemporary Painters exhibition from Thursday November 5.
The gallery, at Pittville Studios in Cheltenham, is hosting the exhibition for the first time during its national tour. This year’s collection of 26 emerging artists, exhibit one work each, demonstrates some of the current debates about what painting is, and what it may become.
The selectors Mali Morris, Phillip Allen and Alexis Harding, are artists themselves and in April 2009 they chose the 26 exhibitors to take part in the an exhibition which was launched at the Jerwood Space, London, earlier this year before it embarked on its national tour.
Nick Sargeant, Head of Art and Design at the University of Gloucestershire, is delighted that the University has the opportunity to display the exhibition.
“Following the ongoing success of the Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition which will again be with us in April 2010, we are pleased to add the Jerwood Contemporary Painters exhibition. It is great to be hosting these two prestigious international exhibitions at the University where we have over 150 years history of teaching Fine Art and particularly Painting and Drawing. We continue to look for ways to support emerging artists, especially at such critical points in there career and the Contemporary Painters show will be inspiring to our students and visitors”
