New Year begins with applause for Moreton Show

The annual Farms & Crops Prize Giving to be held tonight on Tuesday 12th January has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
The Brassey Challenge Cup, for the Best Crop Production of 2009 of Grass Crops, Oil Seed Rape, Pulses, Corn and Root Crops, will be awarded to Guiting Manor Farms Ltd who beat 22 other farms, including R.H. & M.E.Oughton & Sons from Moreton-in-Marsh who came second. Guiting Manor Farms Manager, Nick Bumford, comments “The result bears testament to the hard work and commitment of all the staff of Guiting Manor Farms Ltd”. Prize money for the Brassey Challenge Cup has been kindly donated by Masstock Arable UK Ltd.
Other prizes which will be awarded on the night include those for the Champion Farm and for Champion Crops, as well as a new class for a Working Stock Bull.
All farmers who took part in the 2009 Farms & Crops competition are welcome to come along to the Prize Giving which will take place at Fosseway Garden Centre, Moreton in Marsh at 7.45pm on Tuesday 12th January.

Moreton Show Society’s Plough Sunday Service will also take place at St. James’ Church, Chipping Campden, on Sunday 17th January at 3.00pm, and is open to all those involved with the Show, especially farmers, as well as members and everyone in the area. The Plough will be presented for blessing by William Haines - of “Sproutsuma” fame - and the churn by Rob Harrison, who is probably the last dairy farmer left in the benefice. The tradition of holding a Plough Sunday Service was revived by the Show Society twenty years ago at Campden and it is nice that it should return there for this major anniversary.
