Father and son pair from Bristol & Glos Gliding Club pipped by one point

Father-and-son pilots Andy and Matt Davis were beaten by one point on the last day of a gliding contest that took them on flights all over southern England.

The pair, from Bristol & Glos gliding club at Nympsfield, had led for five days in their Duo Discus glider in the competition at The Gliding Centre, Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire. But on the last day (June 27) they were pipped at the post by Gary Stingemore and Richard Browne in an ASG 29E. The scores were 7152 points to 7151.

Third was another Nympsfield pilot, Iain Evans, in a new JS1 glider imported from South Africa. He scored 6310 points. Another local pilot, Pete Bagnall, in a Discus B came 33rd with 2757 points.

Andy and Matt, from Uley, Glos, will be at the 15-metre national gliding championships at Nympsfield from July 3-11, with Matt competing against 27 other pilots in an LS8 glider and his father acting as his crew.
