Rural cinema to tell famous writer’s romance

Follow the life of famous female author Jane Austen when the Corinium Museum welcomes the rural cinema project back to Cirencester later this month.

The Park Street museum will show ‘Becoming Jane’ on Sunday November 25th, a film from 2006 which tells how 18th and 19th Century author Jane Austen was swept of her feet by a dashing romance in her early years as a writer.

This romance with an Irish rogue – which never lasted for the young author – inspired Austen to write many of her later literary masterpieces, including Emma (1816), Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Sense and Sensibility (1811).

Becoming Jane, which was released in 2006 as a PG, stars Anne Hathaway, James McAvoy and Maggie Smith. It is being shown in the musuem’s Lecture Theatre as part of Cotswold District Council’s rural cinema scheme, which has shown films at many locations around the district over the past two years.
