448 and counting - Cotswolds Marathon Man completes another race

Cotswolds based Steve Edwards ran his 448 marathon last Sunday - 17th February - in a time of 3 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds and that is one more race and one more very good time towards his world record challenge of 500 marathons by 2012 in an average time of under 3 hours 20 minutes.

Marathon Number 448 was the Draycote Water Marathon, near Rugby, Warwickshire, organised by the Kenilworth Runners, and raced on Sunday 17th February 2008.

Steve EdwardsSteve, running for the 100 Marathon Club with Race Number 305, completed the race in 3 hours 12 minutes which was nearly 10 minutes quicker than his time last year. This good time saw him finish 7th overall out of a field of 100 starters and 3rd in the Male Veterans over 40 category.

The 5 lap course of Draycote Water had some undulations in parts, which really kick in about lap 4, but it was a gorgeous sunny but very cold day for the race.

Steve said "I felt good at the start and probably set off a little quicker than I had planned, therefore I wasn't able to maintain my 1 hour 35 mins first half pace into the second half. However I am not complaining though, it is a sub 3 hours 15 minutes result and I am more than happy with that at this stage of the season. Another two marathons and it will be another landmark, 450 marathons, then 50 to go to the magic 500. Got to stay focused, keep training hard and try and maintain these finish times"

Well done Steve.

Steve now has a rest of three weeks before Marathon 449 which is the Duchy Marathon at Redruth Cornwall on Sunday 9th March.
We shall be reporting on this race in March and wish Steve all the best.

In May Steve will be be taking part in a special challenge - the Brathay 10 marathons in 10 days challenge - which will be outside his 500 Marathons attempt and for which we will have a special article - it certainly deserves something special.

Steve is running this event to raise funds for the Brathay Hall Trust Charity and his Fundraising target is £2000.00. Brathay's vision is of a society where children and young people realise their potential. Its purpose is to enable children and young people to make positive choices by taking personal responsibilities for improving their well-being. Details of the charity can be found at www.brathay.org.uk and Steve's personal fund raising page is www.justgiving.com/steveedwards10in10.
