Cotswold's Christian Cullinane completes the 350 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational Race

Moreton-in-Marsh based Christian Cullinane has cycled (and walked) to complete the 350 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational Race in 7 days 13 hours and ten minutes and arrived in McGrath, Alaska at 03.10 on Monday 10th March.

Cotswolds Christian CullinaneThe Iditarod Trail Invitational Race is an extreme competition which sees individual cycle, walk or ski 1100 miles or 350 miles non stop across Alaska. The race is billed as the World's Longest Human Powered Winter Race and is so tough that it is strictly by invitation only with a 50 racer limit. The start is at Knik Lake on the Gulf of Alaska and the 350 mile race ends at McGrath in the Kuskokwim Mountains.

Christian says "I went to Alaska for an adventure and I certainly got one! Things did not exactly go to plan, but then again if it does where is the adventure,  in that half way into the race I lost a bike pedal and , it being incapable of repair, I was forced to have to push the bike for the final miles of the race, sometimes using it as trolley or as a snow plough. 175 miles of pushing an otherwise perfectly functional bike was not much fun I can tell you! I can safely say it was the hardest race I have ever done, as I didn't actually "train" for walking at all, but the most satisfying having completed it.
I met some great great people, saw some fantastic views, woke up to a dawn at Rainy Pass, got frost nip in some fingers, and above all finished. Which is what I went to do - Finish"

Christian was taking part in the Race to raise money for Winston's Wish, a Cheltenham based national child bereavement charity and reiterates the point that "please be assured that none of your donation will be going towards my costs for the race as these were all covered either by corporate sponsors or by myself. Your donation in its entirety will go to Winston's Wish"

Christian is aiming to raise at least £1500 and donations can be made via his website

Well done Christian an amazing feat of endurance. Shame about the pedal.
