Cotswolds MP Gives Speech on United Nations to Farmors School in Fairford

Cotswolds MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown held a joint forum with Professor Malcolm Evans OBE, Professor of Public International Law and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law at the University of Bristol, to talk about the future works of the United Nations, including prevention and conflict.

The forum was held at Farmors School in Fairford and was organised by Chris Dickinson from the United Nations Association. It was attended by over one hundred sixth form students. Professor Malcolm Evans OBE opened the discussion by talking about the present structure of the United Nations and was later followed on by Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP who discussed possible improvements and reform which he believes the UN should undertake.

He emphasised the breath of work undertaken by the UN from health to the environment, from disaster relief to upholding human rights, from atomic energy monitoring to peacekeeping.

Following these two talks questions from the students followed thick and fast. There was much frustration that the UN is not doing more to save lives and prevent conflict.
