GWR’s first Real Ale and Steam weekend

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR), in conjunction with the North Cotswold Branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), is holding its first Ale and Steam weekend on 6th and 7th June at Winchcombe Station.

There’s little more satisfying than supping a pint of locally-brewed real ale – and Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds have some breweries whose products are hard to beat.  And what better than being able to enjoy real steam at the same time?

Visitors to the all volunteer-run Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (Toddington-Winchcombe-Cheltenham Racecourse) can enjoy both thanks to its first Ale & Steam Weekend on Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th June.

The large waiting room at Winchcombe station will be transformed into a bar serving up to 14 beers and local ciders. Many of these are local to Gloucestershire and / or have a railway theme! Hot and cold food, tea / coffee and soft drinks will also be available courtesy of the GWR’s On-Train Catering department. The bar will open from 11.30 until 17.30, and prices will be just £1.30 for a half pint, £2.50 for a pint or £3.00 for a pint of cider.

On the steam side a normal timetable will be operating over the 10-mile heritage railway, with two engines in steam. The first departure from Toddington is at 10.30 and from Cheltenham Racecourse at 11.15 – in time for the opening of the festival at 11.30. The last departures are 16.45 to Cheltenham Racecourse and 17.42 to Toddington.

Please note there will be very limited parking at Winchcombe station and a train ticket or platform ticket for Winchcombe Station will be required to gain entry to the festival.  Normal train fares apply and tickets are available for unlimited travel on day of issue.
