Newcastle is the largest city in the north west of England. It’s named after the Norman castle at its centre. Historically it has been an important industrial centre for coal mining, engineering and shipping. However those industries went into decline during the second half of the twentieth century. Meaning Newcastle had to reinvent itself which it has done very successfully and has many prominent industries, the main one being health. This sector represents more than 16 per cent of jobs in the city as there are many highly rated hospitals including the specialist Great North Children’s hospital. Newcastle also has 3 world ranked universities in close proximity to the city centre providing employment for lecturers, researchers and support staff.

Newcastle is also known for its lively nightlife in and around the thriving cultural hub called the Quayside. The city hosts endless gigs, musicals, comedy nights and club nights, meaning talented artists and musicians always have a place in the city. Clubs, bars and restaurants have many openings for skilled mixologists, servers, security guards and general managers. There are no shortages of jobs, whether skilled or unskilled.
