Edward Sheldon have had a great start to 2009 with two tastings already. Firstly with Nick Buck from Te Mata Estate in New Zealand and then Lyne Marchive from Domaine des Malandes in France. Now Rachel Longstaff is visiting them from the fantastic Maison Louis Latour.

Maison Louis Latour is one of the most highly respected Domaines in Burgundy. Renowned throughout the world for the quality of its red and white wines, the company has built a reputation for tradition and innovation. They have produced some of the finest Burgundian wines but have also pioneered the production of fine wines from outside Burgundy.

The Latour family have been viticulteurs sine the 17th century, slowly building up to 125 acres and they have the largest Grand Cru property in the Cote d’Or with a total of 71.58 acres. The vineyards extend from Chambertin in the north to Chevalier-Montrachet in the south and these are solely planted with the two noble grape varities – Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Maison Latour is unique in Burgundy in that it is still to this day family owned and family run, having passed down from father to son over ten generations. Louis Latour ships its wines to over 60 different countries worldwide and will be found on some of the most famous dining tables around the globe.

Six months before Covid 19 shut down building sites and locked down the UK the company Morris Leslie has already experienced tough times. Uncertainty because of Brexit had already caused building projects to be shut down or paused causing a much lower demand for plant hires and sales. This slowdown had caused an oversupply of construction equipment meaning more competition and so reduced prices. Then Covid 19 hit and the group’s vehicle auctions and Sunday car boot market were shut down.
