Have You Been a Good Girl: Sasha Bowles, Have You Been a Good Girl

Sasha studied at The Central School of Art and Design and then at the Byam Shaw School of Art, graduating in 1989. Subsequently she ran her own design company until 2002 when she returned to painting full time. Her work has already been widely exhibited and she has been successful in Open Competitions, most noteably the 2008 Discerning Eye Competition, when she won the Benton Purchase Prize.

Sharon Wheaton, owner of the Fosse Gallery says ” Since first seeing Sasha Bowles’s work – a large picture at the Llyn-Painter Stainers exhibition in 2008 – I have followed her “inhabited interiors” with a sense of wonder and anticipation. There is otherness here. The bareness of a window sill, floorboards, or a stark mantelpiece may be heightenend dramatically by contrast with rich flock wallpaper, heavy drapes and all the paprphernalia connected with her narratives and the small unspoken moments of everyday life.

Best Friends: Sasha Bowles, Best FriendsFor me finding an artist like Sasha is thrilling. She operates on all cylinders, technically, narratively and emotionally. She succeeds. Over time her work has developed strength and clarity along with a pleasing gravitas.”

The Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday 10.30am – 5.00pm

Uncertainty because of Brexit had already caused building projects to be shut down or paused causing a much lower demand for plant hires and sales. This slowdown had caused an oversupply of construction equipment meaning more competition and so reduced prices. Then Covid 19 hit and the group’s vehicle auctions and Sunday car boot market were shut down.
