Superb location combined with a particularly healthy turnover are major attractions at the Duck on the Pond in South Newington near Banbury.

On the market with Colliers International at £595,000 freehold the outstanding Oxfordshire free house enjoys a pretty village setting with attractive gardens, pond and terrace.

There is also a spacious and well-appointed flat for the new owners.

Peter Brunt, hotels director at Colliers International said for those not swayed by the pub’s aesthetic attractions the Duck on the Pond had shown profits of £76,710 on net turnover of £325,404.

He said: “This is an archetypal country pub with a fantastic location on the A361 between Banbury and Chipping Norton. It ticks all the boxes as far as Cotswold pubs go with lovely honey coloured stone, open fireplaces and a characterful interior.
“The Duck on the Pond offers around 65 covers and there is a public bar plus superb owners’ accommodation on two floors.”

A hit with the local population as well as extensive tourist trade, the Duck on the Pond draws custom from a wide area during the summer, when customers can take advantage of the pond-side gardens, and also during the winter due to the roaring fires.

Peter Brunt said: “Our client acquired the property in 2003 and it has been lovingly restored to a very high standard retaining many of its original features to create the attractive environment evident today. After ten years at the helm as a sole operator, the decision has been taken to sell and move on.”

Dating from around the 1800s, the Duck on the Pond owners’ accommodation comprises a lounge, office, kitchenette and bathroom together with two bedrooms.
