What jobs are in Dorset?

Dorset is a coastal county located in South West England by the English Channel. Areas include the tourist destination Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Dorset. Bournemouth relies heavily on the financial sector to boost its economy. The town is home to huge financial corporations like JP Morgan Chase and Liverpool Victoria. Bankers, financial advisors and analysts are an important part of these companies. Aside from finance, Bournemouth has an important Marine sector, with an Aviation Park that covers 200 acres of land and plays a huge part in supporting the advanced engineering industry.

The Royal Marines have a base in Poole’s harbour, hiring officers and commanders to help serve the country’s humanitarian needs. The Arts University of Bournemouth is also a large employer, providing talented artists, architects and graphic designers. Manufacturing has declined since the 1960s but still employs around 17% of the workforce and remains more prominent than in the economy of Great Britain as a whole. The gorgeous beaches and endless forests mean around 6 million visitors visit the county in the summer alone, making it no surprise why tourism is so important to Dorset. The county also has three main ports: Poole, Weymouth and Portland. It generates substantial international trade with around 230 fishing vessels that catch crabs and lobster to ship around the UK.

What is it like living in Dorset?
